Principal's Message

Dear Elkhorn School parents,

It is truly an honor and privilege to serve as principal of Elkhorn School and part of North Monterey County Unified School District. I began my career in education in North Monterey County Unified School District 20 years ago where I started as a 1st grade bilingual teacher at Prunedale Elementary School. I have been at Elkhorn School for 13 years, 3 as assistant principal and 10 as principal. During the 20 years I have also been a mentor for our beginning teachers and a bilingual literacy coach for the district. I can honestly say that we have the best kids, families, staff and community that really support students and their success in learning and becoming responsible adults.

Elkhorn is one of 4 elementary schools in the District.  Elkhorn is a diverse school with approximately 670 students in Transitional Kindergarten through Sixth grade and we also have 2 preschool programs on our campus. Our school colors are blue and yellow and our school mascot is the Ocelot.

My mission as principal is to always put kids first! My belief is that all students can learn, and it is our job to support all of their needs. Elkhorn teachers and support staff are dedicated to preparing its' students to become college and career ready by providing a quality education for all children.  Our goal is to offer your children the best possible education in a positive and safe learning environment. Our staff encourages it students to use problem-solving and critical thinking skills to become creative and independent thinkers with strong moral character.

As a staff, we focus on student learning and provide many opportunities for our students to increase their academic performance through high expectations, rigorous academic programs, interventions, and effective teaching. Technology is a focus at Elkhorn School. Staff integrates technology into the core curriculum to extend learning beyond the classroom.  We have grade level chrome book carts and computer labs for students to use to enhance their learning.

Elkhorn School takes great pride in establishing an atmosphere that invites families and community members to be a part of the educational process.  Throughout the year, parents are provided many opportunities to participate in the education of their child.  We welcome your attendance at school events and encourage your participation by volunteering in the classroom or by joining our Parent Teacher Group (PTG), English Language Advisory Committee (ELAC) or School Site Council (SSC) and other various committees.

I am looking forward to a promising school year and welcome opportunities to meet and work with you and your children throughout the 2017-2018 school year. Thank you in advance for you support and commitment. If for any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at
