  • ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The N.E.S.T. Program, formerly referred to as ASES, collaborates and integrates with the regular school day and other extended learning opportunities while providing a physical and emotional safe environment, providing opportunities to build relationships and to promote active student engagement though an academic element and an enrichment element.

The academic element  includes tutoring and/or homework assistance, as well as, supplemental activities designed to help students meet state standards in one or more of the following core academic subjects: language arts, mathematics, social studies, science or exploratory courses.

The enrichment element offers an array of additional services, programs and activities that reinforce and complement the regular academic program to support positive youth development. Enrichment activities include physical education, arts & crafts, music, sports, SEL and STEAM.

While in the program, students will also be provided a nutritious meal, as well as a snack, prepared and offered by NMCUSD's Child Nutrition Department.

The program does not discriminate on the basis of sex, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic group identification, race, ancestry, national origin, religion, color or mental or physical disability in determining which children are served. Due to limited space, families must express a desire and/or need for services, and agree to an active attendance with a minimum requirement of 3 days a week or 9 hours per week, in order to be considered. Students that are not in good standing with their attendance and/or violate behavioral terms that pose an unsafe environment for others, may be dropped from the program.
