    Substitute teachers are vital for the day-to-day success of all students attending North Monterey County Unified School District. As a Certificated Guest Teacher (Substitute Teacher), your efforts are critical in ensuring that continuity in the classroom exists. We appreciate your dedication and willingness to serve our students in this way.

    Substitute Pay Rates:

    • Substitute (with only CBEST/Waiver) - $200 per full day (7 hours) 
    • Certificated Substitute with a credential - $225 per full day (7 hours)  
    • Preferred Substitute - $250 per full day (7 hours)
      • Preferred substitute is a person with a valid credential or is working towards a credential that agrees to work with NMCUSD at least 60% of each month
    • Extended Leave or long-term substitute - $285 per day
      • Must have a credential or other county approved authorization for the assignment.

     

    Classified Substitute Employee

    Much like our substitute teachers, the efforts of our Classified Substitutes are critical in ensuring that all of our students experience success. We appreciate all that you do for our students!

     

    We have a variety of positions that you can substitute for.  Listed below are the most common positions, the rate of pay for that position, and any additional requirements.

     

    Substitute After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program After School Educator:
    This position ranges in pay from ___ to ___ per hour.  Applicants must have 48 semester units of college, an AA/AS Degree or a No Child Left Behind Compliance Certificate.

     

    Substitute Bus Driver:
    This position pays $21.16 per hour for PERS members and $19.00 per hour for non-PERS members.  Applicants must have a valid CPR/First Aid Certificate (or endorsement by the California Highway Patrol), a current Class A or B California Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsement, and a valid California School Bus Driver certificate.

     

    Substitute Campus Safety Monitor:
    This position pays ___ per hour.

     

    Substitute Child Nutrition Assistant:
    This position pays $15.74 per hour for PERS members and $15.63 per hour for non-PERS members.

     

    Substitute Clerical
    This position ranges in pay from ___ to ___ per hour.  Applicants must have a valid typing test and clerical skills test and receive fingerprint clearance. 

     

    Substitute Custodian:
    This position pays $21.16 per hour for PERS members.

     

    Substitute Instructional Assistant-Special Education:
    This position pays $18.24 per hour for PERS members.  Applicants must have 48 semester units of college, an AA/AS Degree or a No Child Left Behind Compliance Certificate.


    Substitute Paraprofessional-Special Education:
    This position pays $25.73 per hour for PERS members.  Applicants must have 48 semester units of college, an AA/AS Degree or a No Child Left Behind Compliance Certificate.

    Substitute Translator/Interpreter:
    This position pays $26.95 per hour for PERS members and $26.25 per hour for non-PERS members.  Applicants must have a valid California Driver’s License with proof of insurance as well as an applicable license or certificate as a Translator/Interpreter or current enrollment in a Translator/Interpreter training program.

     

    Substitute Yard Duty Supervisor:
    This position pays $15.03 per hour.

    All substitute applicants, both Certificated and Classified, being recommended for employment are required to:

    • complete the appropriate employment packet.
    • provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
    • provide a copy of TB clearance.
    • be fingerprinted.
    • complete mandatory training through Keenan & Associates. You will receive an email with the specifics.
