An innovative community school system, we equip preschool to adult students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes they will need to pursue their   life goals responsibly and creatively in a radically changing society.

Monterey County Free Libraries operates seventeen branch libraries, two bookmobiles, a library by mail program, deposit collections in local schools, and a number of special programs, including a literacy program which operates a literacy outreach vehicle focused on family literacy and kindergarten readiness. Free library services are provided to all residents of Monterey County. The system operates three branches in North Monterey County, one in Castroville (11160 Speegle St, Castroville, CA 95012), one in Prunedale (17822 Moro Rd, Prunedale, CA 93907), and one in Aromas (389D Blohm Ave # D, Aromas, CA 95004).

The mission of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is to safeguard the lives and property of the people within our county. We perform our law enforcement and custody duties with honor and integrity in order to guard the public trust. Our highly trained and competent workforce reflects the diversity of our community and demonstrates the highest standards of professionalism.

Hartnell College is one of the oldest educational institutions in California. Founded in 1920 as Salinas Junior College, the school was renamed Hartnell College in 1948. The Hartnell Community College District was formed the following year. Hartnell College serves the Salinas Valley with its main campuses in Salinas and various satellite programs. In 2016, Hartnell Community College District voters approved a bond to expand its programs to additional parts of the district, including North Monterey County.

NCRPD is a Local Government Agency (Special District) providing Recreation and Parks services to the North Monterey County area including the communities of Castroville, Moss Landing, Oak Hills and parts of Elkhorn and Prunedale, along with the surrounding rural community. NCRPD opperates the North County Recreation Center, Cato-Phillips Park, Crane Street Park, Japanese School Park, Rancho Moro Cojo Park and the Moro Cojo Nature Trails.

California contains diverse cultures, peoples, and ages. And we have this in common: We use the road to go places. Help us do it safely. The CHP is actively trying to get our accident and fatality rate down. Below are the programs designed to help promote safety and communication between the diverse California residents and the CHP.

The mission of the Elkhorn Slough Foundation is to conserve and restore Elkhorn Slough and its watershed.We see Elkhorn Slough and its watershed protected forever -- a working landscape, where people, farming, industry, and nature thrive together. As one of California's last great coastal wetlands, Elkhorn Slough will remain a wellspring of life and a source of inspiration for generations to come.

The Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve is one of 28 National Estuarine Research Reserves established nationwide as field laboratories for scientific research and estuarine education. The Reserve is administered by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and managed by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The 1700-acre Reserve is a hub of activity and hosts programs that promote education, research, and conservation in Elkhorn Slough. The Visitor Center has award-winning exhibits that invite everyone to explore the Unseen Slough. There are five miles of trails that meander through beautiful oak woodlands, calm tidal creeks, and freshwater marshes. We offer tours on the weekends and special events throughout the year.

It is the mission of the North County Fire Protection District of Monterey County to provide the highest level of service to protect the lives, property, and the environment of the North County community, by providing prompt and professional services in the event of fire, medical emergency, rescue, environmental disaster or any other event which threatens the public welfare.

The Monterey County Probation Department serves all of the criminal courts of Monterey County, California. Probation Officers supervise approximately 5,500 adult and 900 juvenile offenders granted probation by the courts. The department's services to the community include recommending sanctions to the court, enforcing court orders, operating correctional institutions, incarcerating delinquents, assisting victims, and providing corrective assistance to individuals in conflict with the law.
The department works together with law enforcement agencies, schools, community based organizations, and the citizens of Monterey County to form productive partnerships to ensure public safety, offender rehabilitation, and the protection of victims' rights.
The Probation Department also operates and maintains the Juvenile Hall and other juvenile facilities and programs, including the Youth Center, the Silver Star Youth Program, and the Silver Star Resource Center.

Today, as yesterday, we continue the Girl Scout mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. We’re the preeminent leadership development organization for girls. And with programs for girls from coast to coast and across the globe, Girl Scouts offers every girl a chance to do something amazing.

The Monterey County Health Department exists to enhance, protect and improve the health of the people in Monterey County. To accomplish this, the Department provides a wide variety of health-related services in the areas of public health, environmental health, behavioral health and clinic services.

The Mission of the League of United Latin American Citizens is to advance the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, housing, health and civil rights of the Hispanic population of the United States.

We are a multicultural community of faith, called by God to be transformed into Christ’s image. We are moved by the Holy Spirit to live the Gospel as we serve our neighbor with passionate love and humility. We acknowledge and value the dignity of each person as we build unity through diversity.

In September 2012, the Monterey County Children's Council established the Early Childhood Development Initiative, now know as Bright Beginnings. The Children's Council, a collaborative group of county, business, and nonprofit agencies, working together to enhance the lives of children, sees Bright Beginnings as a way to mobilize communities around important issues facing children and families to ensure that young children have what they need to succeed.

Each First 5 is responsible for conducting a strategic planning process to identify the needs and strengths of their counties.  In 2006, First 5 Monterey County launched a participatory strategic planning process involving nearly 1,200 participants. This in-depth work guides our local investments of about $7 million annually.

We fund community based organizations like school districts, county agencies, and nonprofits.  Those organizations create and implement programs shown to have positive outcomes and maximize financial resources. Our work is based upon building relationships with our community and is guided by integrity, honesty, and mutual respect towards others.  We encourage inclusiveness, collaboration, and innovation in building communities supportive of young children and their families.
